What is the dosage and how should it be used?

Trimipramine comes in various capsule strengths and should be taken orally with a full glass (8 ounces) of water.

Take trimipramine exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

The usual starting dose is 75 mg per day, split into equal, smaller doses (for example, 25 mg three times daily). Doses often are gradually increased to 150 mg per day. Doses in long-term therapy may range from 50 to 150 milligrams daily.

Trimipramine may be taken several times a day or in one daily dose (usually at bedtime). Follow your doctor's instructions.

It may be 4 weeks or more before you start to feel better, but do not stop taking trimipramine without first talking to your doctor.
